The Human Circulatory System

The human circulatory system is a complex system which consists of a heart, blood vessels and about 5 liters of blood, which gets transmitted through the blood vessels. These blood vessels help the circulatory system to transport oxygen, nutrients, hormones and cellular waste products.

The heart is the most crucial organ of the human body. It may not be the largest organ but it has to work 24 x 7 to pump blood throughout our body. Circulatory Loops

Primarily there are two circulatory loops in our body. First, the pulmonary circulation loop. Second, the systematic circulation loop.

  1. The Pulmonary circulation helps us to transport deoxygenated blood. It takes deoxygenated blood from the right of the heart towards the lungs. From the lungs, the blood picks up blocks of oxygen and brings it to the left side of the heart.
  2. The systemic circulation helps our body to carry highly oxygenated blood from the left side of our heart to all the tissues around our body. The circulation removes cell wastes from our body tissues and brings back deoxygenated blood to the right side of our heart.

Blood Vessels

Just like highways, the blood vessels helps blood to be transported to every single region of our body and returns to the heart. The Capillaries are the smallest and thinnest blood vessels in our body. Capillaries are also the most common blood vessels. They carry blood through the closest cells of our body tissues to exchange gasses, nutrients and waste products.

What are the veins?

Veins are the returning roads for the blood to return towards the heart.  The veins usually have low pressure, this allows its walls to be thinner, less elastic and less muscular than other blood vessels.
